I immediately knew at the start of the briefing that I wanted to try some basic rotoscoping because I was advised by tutors that it would be a great way to start and also I knew it would be an interesting way to study movement and how animation works in its basic form.
Definition of Rotoscoping – is an animation technique in which animators trace over footage, frame by frame, for use in live-action and animated films.
I found some examples of this in media such as the video below.
I remembered seeing this music video a while back and thought that it would be a great place to start.
I was thinking of some already existing characters I could practise rotoscoping on. Just like the music video above, I wanted to rotoscope live footage not an already existing animation. I wanted to choose a video which featured some interesting facial expressions or a dramatic action like a jump.
I strolled upon this montage video of Will Ferrell quotes and I picked the big jump at the start.
